What gets in the way of hearing God’s call?

Perhaps because so much is at stake, hearing God on the question of "What should I be when I grow up?" can be difficult. What gets in the way for you?

Here are three things that get in the way of following God's call for me:

Lifestyle: You're locked into a lifestyle. You've traded the possibility of wild, out-of-the-box living for debt and a garage full of stuff. Maybe you didn't realize it. More of us need to kick our expensive lifestyle habits!

Fear: Maybe you're afraid. Of the unknown. Or of stepping outside your comfort zone. But I always think about something I fear more: Dying with regrets. Dying with my songs unsung. I fear that most of all.

Deafness: You don't know what God's voice sounds like. You don't know what He's calling you to do. It's a struggle to hear His voice.

We are all called. God is perpetually calling to us. A call is a progressive thing; you've never absolved yourself of your responsibility to listen. What gets in the way of your call?
