Sometimes when you pray (and sometimes when you don't care to pray), God seems to delight in asking questions that you respond to at your own risk. He asks Isaiah, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"

Isaiah responds in the only acceptable way possible when addressing the Almighty: "Here am I send me."

Jesus wants to teach us what he taught his disciples - how to pray dangerous prayers. He tells them,  "Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest field." (Matt. 9:37)

Presumably they pray that dangerous prayer, because in the next chapter, we see Jesus answering the prayer by sending them out.

I wonder if we haven't lost the capacity to pray dangerous prayers. The good news is, we don't even have to be original. We can pray someone else's. Here are three:

Bob Pierce's prayer
"Lord break my heart with the things that break your heart."

Experiencing God prayer

"Lord, show me where you're at work and how to join you there."

David Brainerd's prayer*

"Here am I, send me; send me to the ends of the earth; send me to
the rough, the savage pagans of the wilderness; send me from all that is called
comfort on earth; send me even to death itself, if it be but in Thy service,
and to promote Thy kingdom."

Sometimes a dangerous prayer is about forgiveness. "God, I don't want to forgive, please take my bitterness away and help me to forgive."

Sometimes a dangerous prayer is about an area where you've grown cynical, "Lord, I don't know how this will ever change, but I know you're a God of miracles, please change my heart. I'm willing to be changed."

What dangerous prayer can you pray today? If you're willing, please pray it below.

*Although he died of tuberculosis at
age 29, Brainerd has inspired generations of missionaries to pray dangerous prayers.
