I'm writing to you from Dublin, Ireland. Karen and I are here as a part of a conference for World Racers (all 350 of them coming from all over the world!) called the Awakening. It starts on the 30th.

I liked the movie Awakenings and I like the concept of awakening as a metaphor for discipleship. In the movie, Dr. Malcolm Sayer (Robin Williams) has a ward full of comatose patients. He develops a possible chemical cure and, when he tries it on his patients, they wake up.

Robert De Niro plays the part of Leonard Lowe who at one point says, "Hello. My name is Leonard Lowe. It has been explained to me that I've been away for quite some time. I'm back."

Many of us, having experienced dramatic spiritual growth at one point in our lives, have effectively gone to sleep. That dramatic encounter we had with God seems like a distant memory. We've gone numb and need to wake up. We need to find our way back. We need to see spiritual reality for what it is.

It's true for all of us. Periodically life does a number on us. We need help waking up. A worship experience can do that for you, the prayers of friends can help wake you up. Seeing God move in power can do it.

An awakening can happen by accident, but it's the hungry that get fed. Better to go in search of it. There's more out there if you'll look for it. How's your walk with God? Periodic numbness is normal, but an awakening could be just around the corner. Listen to the Lord in Rev. 3:2 and respond to the Spirit's call.
